Skillsoft: Online tools to enhance your skills!

In January 2012, OLE launched an online learning resource through Skillsoft Canada, and since the launch, over 5000 staff and faculty members have been given access to the resource.


Just-In-Time Training

Think your schedule is just too busy to do anything outside of your existing workload? Keeping your skills and knowledge up-to-date through training and development is something you need to truly invest in and maintain. Stretch and improve your skills so you can be more efficient and effective.

Skillsoft allows you to take training when you are able, instead of waiting for a course to be offered. Learning assets are broken into smaller modules, where one module may take you only 20 or 30 minutes and the bookmarking features make it easy to come back to where you left off. Think you already have a baseline knowledge? Don’t want to take the entire course? Take a course test and skip over sections of content that you already know and focus on the areas you want to gain more knowledge on.

Just-in-time training means flexibility for you and the ability to engage in training on your schedule, either at your desk or from home.

Books 24x7 is a huge resource for online books on relevant and current business and work topics. New titles are added each week and you are free to access them from any internet device, including; tablets, smart phones, and personal computers.

Fall 2012: Watch for upcoming interactive orientation sessions! 

This fall, OLE will be presenting several 90 minute sessions in various computer labs across campus that will give people an opportunity to hear more about what`s up-and-coming in Skillsoft. During these interactive sessions we will give people one-on-one assistance on navigating the portal and finding tools that are tailored to their individual learning needs. Excuse me, but is that your inner radical showing? This is not a question that you are likely to run into every day and probably not a good conversation starter at a party. But it is one that we might want to ask ourselves from time to time. An introduction to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

As leaders of change, transformation and personal development, it is only fitting that a significant portion of our programming is focused around self-awareness and behaviour. We know that personality and preferences do not define character or behaviour, but they do impact actions, mind sets, and how people view the world. One tool that OLE uses to enhance individual and team awareness and to support inclusive team processes and communication is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). The indicator was developed by Katharine Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers, and based on theory originally proposed by Carl Jung.
